A student obtained 32% marks and he failed by 6 marks. If he had scored 36% marks, he would have been passed by 2 marks. What is the passing marks(score)?
Let's assume the passing marks is 'y'.
A student obtained 32% marks and he failed by 6 marks.
32% = (y-6)Â Â Eq.(i)
If he had scored 36% marks, he would have been passed by 2 marks.
36% = (y+2)Â Â Â Eq.(ii)
Subtract Eq.(i) by Eq.(ii).
36%-32% = (y+2)-(y-6)
4% =Â y+2-y+6
4% = 8
1% = 2
So from Eq.(ii), 36% = $$36\times2$$
= 72
(y+2)Â = 72
y = 72-2
Passing marks = y = 70
