Two cyclists start on a circular track from a given point but in opposite directions with speeds of 7 m/sec and 8 m/sec respectively. If the circumference of the circle is 300 metres, after what time will they meet at the starting point ?
Let the time traveled by the cyclists be x seconds when they meet.
So, distance covered by cyclist 1 = 7x and
distance covered by cyclist 2 = 8x
So, 7x + 8x = 15x = 300 [When the cyclist meet, they would have covered the whole circumference together.]
x = 20 seconds.
