A solid cube of side $$6\text{ cm}$$ and density $$2\text{ g cm}^{-3}$$ is floating in a liquid of density $$3\text{ g cm}^{-3}$$. Volume of the cube seen above the liquid surface is
The volume of the cube is $$6^3 = 216\text{ cm}^3$$. For floating, the fraction submerged is $$\frac{2}{3}$$, so $$144\text{ cm}^3$$ is submerged and $$216 - 144 = 72\text{ cm}^3$$ is above the surface.
