Question 34

Some statements are given below and these are followed by some conclusions. Assume the given statements to be true even if they seem to be at variance with the commonly observed facts. Decide which conclusions logically follow from the given statements and then choose the answer accordingly.

Statements:
I: Some apples are mangoes
II: All mangoes are guavas
III: All guavas are grapes
IV: Some grapes are sour

Conclusions:
I All mangoes are grapes
II Some apples are sour

Solution

All mangoes are guavas and all guavas are grapes. Hence, all mangoes are also grapes. Thus, conclusion I logically follows from the given statement. Conclusion II does not follow from the given statements as all apples may not be sour. Thus, only conclusion I follows. Hence, option A is the correct answer.
