A boatman can row a boat downstream at 13 kmph and upstream at 9 kmph. What will be the speed of boat in still water ? (in kmph).

Solution

Speed of boat in still water

= $$\frac{1}{2}$$ (downstream + upstream)

= $$\frac{1}{2} (13 + 9) = \frac{22}{2}$$

= $$11$$ kmph
