Question 29

Volume of a cylinder is 770 cubic cm. If circumference of its base is 22 cm, what will be the curved surface area of the cylinder? (Take π = 22/7)

Solution

Let radius of base of cylinder = $$r$$ cm and height = $$h$$ cm

Circumference of base = $$2 \pi r = 22$$

=> $$2 \times \frac{22}{7} \times r = 22$$

=> $$r = \frac{7}{2} = 3.5$$ cm

Volume of cylinder = $$\pi r^2 h = 770$$

=> $$\frac{22}{7} \times (3.5)^2 \times h = 770$$

=> $$38.5 \times h = 770$$

=> $$h = \frac{770}{38.5} = 20$$ cm

Curved surface area of cylinder = $$2 \pi r h$$

=> $$22 \times 20 = 440$$ $$cm^2$$

=> Ans - (A)
