Question 26

Point P is the midpoint of segment AB. Co-ordinates of P are (5,-4) and A are (7,0). What will be the co-ordinates of point B?

Solution

Coordinates of midpoint of line joining A = $$(x_1 , y_1)$$ and B = $$(x_2 , y_2)$$ is $$(\frac{x_1 + x_2}{2} , \frac{y_1 + y_2}{2})$$

P (5,-4) is mid point of A (7,0) and B (x,y)

=> $$5 = \frac{x + 7}{2}$$

=> $$x = 10 - 7 = 3$$

Similarly, $$-4 = \frac{y + 0}{2}$$

=> $$y = -8$$

$$\therefore$$ Coordinates of B = (3,-8)
