Question 26

If 5x - 3(4 - x) < 4x - 4 < 4x + 2x/3; then the value of x is

Solution

Expression 1 : 5x - 3(4 - x) < 4x - 4

=> $$5x-12+3x$$ < $$4x-4$$

=> $$8x-4x$$ < $$-4+12$$

=> $$4x$$ < $$8$$

=> $$x$$ < $$2$$ -----------(i)

Expression 2 : 4x - 4 < 4x + 2x/3

=> $$\frac{2x}{3}$$ > $$-4$$

=> $$x$$ > $$-6$$ ----------(ii)

Combining inequalities (i) and (ii), we get : $$-6$$ < $$x$$ < $$2$$

The only value that $$x$$ can take among the options = 1

=> Ans - (D)
