We can assume the 7 consecutive numbers to be a-3, a-2, a-1, a, a+1, a+2, a+3
=> The sum of the numbers = 7a
=> The average of the numbers = 7a/7 = 20 => a = 20
The sum of the smallest and the largest number is a - 3 + a + 3 = 2a = 40.
