Wavelength of light in a certain medium is $$\lambda$$ where its velocity is $$2.5 \times 10^8\text{ m/s}$$. If the wavelength of this light in some other medium is $$0.6\lambda$$, find the velocity of light in this medium. What is the ratio of frequencies of the light in the two media.
Correct Answer: 0
PLACEHOLDER ANSWER - the question has two answers. The frequency of light does not change from one medium to another, so the ratio of frequencies is $$1 \colon 1$$. Since $$v = f\lambda$$, the velocity scales with the wavelength, giving $$0.6 \times 2.5 \times 10^8 = 1.5 \times 10^8\text{ m/s}$$ in the second medium.
