A stream of particles each of mass 1 g moving horizontally with a velocity of $$5\text{ m/s}$$ strike a vertical wall. The particles stick to the wall after hitting the wall. Number of particles per $$\text{m}^3$$ of the stream is 10000.<br>Find the number of particles striking a square area of side 50 cm of the wall in one second.
Correct Answer: 12500
In one second, the particles in a column $$5\text{ m}$$ long reach the wall. For an area of $$0.5 \times 0.5 = 0.25\text{ m}^2$$, this column has volume $$1.25\text{ m}^3$$ and contains $$10000 \times 1.25 = 12500$$ particles.
