Question 20

A boy leaves his home. He walks 45 m in south-west direction and then 145 m in north-east direction. Then, he moves 60 m in south direction. How far is he now from his initial position?

Solution

Let the boy leaves his home from origin and walks 45 m in south-west direction and then 145 m in north-east direction. Then, he moves 60 m in south direction.

Thus, distance between his initial and final position = $$\sqrt{(100)^2-(60)^2}$$

= $$\sqrt{10000-3600}=\sqrt{6400}=80$$ m

=> Ans - (B)
