A car travels between places A and B covering part of the distance at $$40\text{ kmph}$$ in 1 hour and the remaining distance at $$30\text{ kmph}$$ in 2 hours. In the return journey from B to A along a different path which is $$\frac{3}{2}$$ times longer the speed is $$75\text{ kmph}$$ for the entire journey. Find the average speed (in kmph) of the car for the round trip.
Correct Answer: 50
The distance A to B is $$40 \times 1 + 30 \times 2 = 100\text{ km}$$, covered in 3 hours. The return path is $$150\text{ km}$$ at $$75\text{ kmph}$$, taking 2 hours. Average speed $$= \frac{100 + 150}{3 + 2} = 50\text{ kmph}$$.
