Difference in their squares = $$(5x)^{2} - (4x)^{2}$$ = 81
=> 25$$x^{2}$$ - 16$$x^{2}$$ = 81
=> $$x^{2}$$ = $$\frac{81}{9}$$
=> $$x$$ = 3
