The following table shows the percentage break up of various cars sold by 5 companies in the year 2016. Further, it is known that all the cars sold by each of the companies belong to one of these 4 types. Some data is intentionally left blank.
Values in the table indicate the number of cars of a particular type sold by a company as a percentage of the total number of cars sold by the company. (Eg: 23% of the total cars sold by Koyota are hatchbacks).
Further, the following information is known.
Total number of cars sold by Koyota, Gyundai and Donda is the same.
Folksvagen sold twice as many cars as BM.
BM sold twice as many cars as Donda.
The total number of hatchback cars sold by the 5 companies put together in the given year is 925.
The total number of cars sold by the 5 companies put together is
We know that all the cars sold by a particular company belong to one of these 4 types. Therefore, the total percentage must be 100.
Eg) 23% of cars sold by Koyota are hatchbacks.
12% of cars sold by Koyota are sedans.
15% of cars sold by Koyota are crossovers.
Therefore, the remaining 100 - (23+12+15) = 50% of the cars sold must be SUVs.
Similarly filling the other values we get the following table.
Let the total number of cars sold by Koyota be x.
We know that, the total number of cars sold by Gyundai is x.
Total number of cars sold by Donda = x.
Total number of cars sold by BM = 2*x = 2x
Total number of cars sold by Folksvagen = 2*2x = 4x.
Total number of hatchbacks sold = 925
0.23x + 0.26x + 0.17*4x + 0.18*2x + 0.32x = 925
0.23x + 0.26x + 0.68x + 0.36x + 0.32x = 925
1.85x = 925
x = 500.
Now, we can find the number of cars of each type sold by a particular company.
Eg) 23% of cars sold by Koyota are hatchbacks.
Koyota sold 500 cars in total.
Therefore, Number of hatchbacks sold by Koyota = 0.23*500 = 115.
Similarly, we can fill the entire table. The final table is as shown below:
As we can see, the total number of cars sold by the 5 companies put together is 4500. Therefore, option B is the right answer.
