Let original number of masons = $$x$$
Using, $$M_1D_1=M_2D_2$$
=> $$x\times10=(x-8)\times18$$
=> $$10x=18x-144$$
=> $$18x-10x=144$$
=> $$x=\frac{144}{8}=18$$
