Question 147

In order to pass in an examination, a student is required to get 280 marks out of the aggregate marks. Hema got 264 marks and was declared fail by 2 percent. What is the minimum passing percentage of the examination ?

Solution

Let the maximum marks in the examination = $$100x$$

Acc. to ques,

=> $$\frac{2}{100} \times 100x = 280 - 264$$

=> $$2x = 16$$

=> $$x = \frac{16}{2} = 8$$

=> Max marks = 8 * 100 = 800

$$\therefore$$ Passing percentage = $$\frac{280}{800} \times 100$$ = 35 %
