Two trains of lengths 150 m and 180 m respectively are running in opposite directions on parallel tracks. If their speeds be 50 km/hr and 58 km/hr respectively, in what time will they cross each other

Solution

Trains are moving in the opposite directions,

Relative distance = (150 + 180) = 330 m

Relative speed = (50 + 58) x $$\frac{5}{18}$$ m/sec = 108 x $$\frac{5}{18}$$ m/sec = 30 m/sec

Relative time can be written as, T = $$\frac{D}{S} = \frac{330}{30}$$ = 11 seconds

Hence, option D is the correct answer.
