A train passes a station platform in 36 seconds and a man standing on the platform in 20 seconds If the speed of the train is 54 km/hr what is the length of the platform? (in m )
Let us assume the length of train to be X m and length of the platform to be Y m.
The speed of train in m/sec =Β $$54\times\ \frac{5}{18}=15\ $$m/sec
Train passed the platform in 36 seconds which means that X+Y = 15*36 ==> X + Y = 540 metres.
Train passed the standing man in 20 seconds which means that X = 20*15 = 300 metres.
This gives the value of Y i.e. the length of the platform to be 240 metres.
