In a college, 40% of the students were allotted group A, 75% of the remaining were given group B and the remaining 12 students were given group C. Then the number of students who applied for the groups is
Let the total number of students who applied for the groups be $$100x$$
No. of students allotted group A = $$\frac{40}{100} * 100x = 40x$$
Students remaining = $$100x - 40x = 60x$$
Students given group B = $$\frac{75}{100} * 60x = 45x$$
Remaining students = $$60x - 45x = 15x$$
Acc to ques :
=> $$15x = 12$$
=> $$x = \frac{4}{5} = 0.8$$
$$\therefore$$ Total number of students = 100 * 0.8 = 80
