Question 120

The weight of a container completely filled with water is 2.25 kg. The container weighs 0.77 kg when its 0.2 part is filled with water. The weight (in kg) of a container when 0.4 part of it is filled with water, is

Solution

Let the weight of the only container = a

Let the weight of only water when the container is completely filled = w

The weight of container when completely filled with water = 2.25 kg

$$=$$>  w + a = 2.25 .................(1)

The weight of container when 0.2 part is filled with water = 0.77 kg

$$=$$>  0.2w + a = 0.77 ............(2)

Solving (1) - (2)

0.8w = 1.48

$$=$$>  w = $$\frac{148}{80}$$ = 1.85 kg

From (1), 1.85 + a = 2.25

$$=$$>  a = 0.4 kg

$$\therefore\ $$The weight of container when 0.4 part is filled with water = 0.4w + a = $$0.4\left(1.85\right)+0.4$$ = 1.14 kg

Hence, the correct answer is Option D
