Question 111

Two trains running in opposite directions on parallel tracks, at speeds of 42 km/h and 57 km/h, take 18 seconds to cross each other. If the length of one train is 270 m,then the length of the other train is:

let second train length = $$x$$ meter

Both trains relative speed = 42 + 57 = 99 km/hr

change into m/s = $$99 \dfrac {5}{18} m/ s $$

given t (time taken) = 18 second

so according to question $$ 270 +x = 99 \times \dfrac{5}{18}\times 18 $$

$$\Rightarrow 270 + x = 495 $$

$$\Rightarrow x = 495 - 270 = 225 $$ meter Ans
