A 160 metre long train running at a speed of 90 kmph crosses a platform in 18 seconds.What is the length of the platform in metres?
Solution
Let the length of the platform be 'x' metres
Distance travelled by the train = 160 + x
Speed of the train = 90 kmph = $$90\times \frac{5}{18}$$ = 25 m/sec
Distance = Speed $$\times$$ Time
$$160 + x = 25 \times 18$$
$$x = 290$$
Length of the platform = 290 m
