Question 102

A train running at a speed of 60 kmph crosses a platform double its length in 32.4 seconds. What is the length of the platform?

Let the length of the train be 'x' metres
Length of the platform = 2x
Distance travelled by the train = x + 2x = 3x
Speed of the train = 60 kmph = $$60 \times \frac{5}{18}$$ m/sec
Distance = Speed $$\times$$ Time
$$3x = 60 \times \frac{5}{18} \times 32.4$$
$$x = 180$$
The length of the platform = 2x = 360 m
