N $$\times$$ volume of solid metallic spherical balls = $$\times$$ volume of cylindrical rod
N $$\times \frac{4}{3} \pi r^3 = \pi (3r)^2(4r)$$
N $$\times \frac{4}{3} = 36$$
N = 27
