JoSAA Round 5 Cutoff 2026
The JoSAA Round 5 Cutoff 2026 was released as part of the final regular allotment round. Round 5 typically sees closing ranks stabilise or move slightly compared to Round 4, since most high-demand branches get filled in earlier rounds. However, seats left vacant in less competitive programmes or newer institutes continue to attract candidates in Round 5, and their closing ranks may still move outward as demand fills available capacity.
For students evaluating their position after Round 5, the key question is whether the closing rank in their preferred programme improved or worsened relative to Round 4. Most closing ranks moved upward by small margins, indicating continued demand even in the final round. For example, IIT Delhi CSE (OPEN, Gender-Neutral, AI) remained unchanged at a closing rank of 128, while IIT Bhubaneswar CSE moved from 4,642 to 4,899.
To prepare for a stronger rank in the next cycle, candidates can practise with our JEE Question Bank, which covers chapterwise previous year questions across all three subjects.

JoSAA Round 5 Opening and Closing Ranks
The opening rank is the lowest rank at which a seat was allocated in a given round for a specific programme, quota, category, and gender pool. The closing rank is the highest (numerically largest) rank at which a seat was filled. A lower numerical rank is better; so a closing rank of 500 means only candidates ranked 500 or better received a seat in that round.
In Round 5, opening ranks are not necessarily lower than in Round 4. A higher opening rank compared to an earlier round can occur when top-ranked candidates who held this programme in earlier rounds upgraded to a better option in Round 5, allowing slightly lower-ranked candidates to fill from the opening end. Conversely, closing ranks typically move outward in later rounds as remaining seats get allocated to candidates further down the merit list.
The table below shows the IIT Bombay full programme-wise Round 5 opening and closing ranks for the AI quota and OPEN category in both the Gender-Neutral and Female-only pools, to illustrate how ranks vary across branches:
Programme | Quota | Seat Type | Gender Pool | R5 Opening Rank | R5 Closing Rank |

JoSAA Round 5 Category-Wise Cut-Off Analysis
JoSAA seat allocation respects reservation norms mandated by the Government of India. For each programme and institute, separate closing ranks exist for OPEN (General), EWS (Economically Weaker Section), OBC-NCL (Other Backward Classes, Non-Creamy Layer), SC (Scheduled Caste), and ST (Scheduled Tribe) categories. PwD (Person with Disability) sub-categories also exist within each seat type.
As a general rule, closing ranks become more accessible as you move from OPEN to SC/ST categories, since a smaller number of candidates compete for reserved seats. The table below shows the IIT Bombay CSE category-wise Round 5 cutoff for the AI quota and Gender-Neutral pool across all seat types:
Institute | Programme | Quota | Seat Type | Gender | R5 Opening Rank | R5 Closing Rank | R4 Closing Rank | Change |

IIT Bombay | CSE (4 Yrs) | AI | OBC-NCL | Gender-Neutral | 12 | 62 | 62 | Unchanged |
IIT Bombay | CSE (4 Yrs) | AI | SC | Gender-Neutral | 1 | 39 | 35 | +4 |
IIT Bombay | CSE (4 Yrs) | AI | ST | Gender-Neutral | 1 | 16 | 16 | Unchanged |
IIT Bombay | CSE (4 Yrs) | AI | OPEN | Female-only (Supernumerary) | 77 | 395 | 395 | Unchanged |

JoSAA Round 5 Cutoff 2026: Conclusion
The JoSAA Round 5 Cutoff 2026 provides the final opening and closing ranks for the regular counselling process. Most highly preferred IIT, NIT and IIIT programmes showed limited cutoff movement because their seats were largely filled in the previous rounds. However, some newer institutes, lower-demand branches and less competitive programmes recorded noticeable changes as the remaining vacant seats were allotted.
Candidates should compare their ranks with the college-wise, branch-wise, category-wise and quota-wise JoSAA Round 5 cutoffs before making admission decisions. Students who did not secure their preferred NIT, IIIT or GFTI seat can explore the CSAB Special Rounds. Future JEE aspirants can also use these cutoff trends to set realistic rank targets and create a focused preparation strategy.
Students who did not receive a preferred seat in Round 5 should check eligibility for CSAB Special Rounds, which handle vacant NIT, IIIT, and GFTI seats after JoSAA closes. Aspirants targeting a stronger rank in the next cycle can begin preparation using our JEE Mains Online Coaching platform and our JEE Study Material resources
