IIT Round 5 Cutoff 2026
The IIT Round 5 Cutoff 2026 is out on the official JoSAA website. JoSAA Round 5 results were released on July 16, 2026. Round 5 seat allotment results show the opening and closing ranks for BTech and other IIT courses across different student categories, gender, seat type etc. The JoSAA Round 5 is the last and final round for seat allocation for IITs and IISc.
The last date to complete online reporting for candidates who are allotted seats in JoSAA Round 5 is July 20, 2026. As per the official Round 5 data, IIT Bombay CSE closed at rank 67 in the OPEN Gender-Neutral category while IIT Delhi CSE closed at 128. IIT Madras CSE closed at 151. IIT Kanpur and IIT Kharagpur saw closing ranks of 283 and 509, respectively.
Before using cutoffs, it is important to cross-check the following details:
- Name of the IIT
- Academic programme
- Seat category
- Gender
- PwD or non-PwD status
Candidates preparing for the next admission cycle may use cutoff trends to set a practical rank target with regular JEE Mains Mock Test practice to improve performance.
JoSAA Round 5 completes the seat allocation process for IITs. The cutoff reflects the final aspirant admitted to IITs based on programme preference, category and gender. There is no fixed opening and closing rank but it varies across different programmes. BTech CSE branch closes within the first few hundred ranks, while science, architecture or newer engineering branches extend further.
You may use the official JoSAA cutoff portal to select:
- Round number
- Institute type and institute name
- Academic programme
- Seat type/category
It is important to use the correct filter when checking individual rank on JoSAA portal. Round 5 also has greater importance for IIT candidates because no later JoSAA or spot round fills IIT seats. Therefore, it is important to complete fee payment, document upload and query responses as per schedule.
IIT Round 5 Opening Rank & Closing Rank
The IIT Round 5 opening rank is the highest-rank of the candidate allotted a particular seat while closing rank is the last rank that received that seat. A smaller numerical closing rank indicates stronger competition. It is important to compare ranks only within the same programme, category, gender and seat type.
IIT Bombay retained the most competitive opening rank at 1. IIT Kanpur opened at 32, followed by IIT Delhi at 35. IIT BHU Varanasi saw the widest closing rank range because its Architecture programme closed at 28,480. IIT Round 5 Cutoff 2026 (Category-Wise)
JoSAA publishes separate cutoff ranks for OPEN, EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST and PwD seat pools. Each category follows its own rank list.
An OBC-NCL closing rank of 62 must not be compared directly with an OPEN closing rank of 67. The former number represents an OBC-NCL category rank while the latter represents the Common Rank List. The table below uses IIT Bombay CSE to explain the category-wise Round 5 structure. It covers Gender-Neutral, non-PwD seats.
IIT Bombay CSE Category-Wise Cutoff in Round 5
Seat Category | Rank List Used | Opening Rank | Closing Rank |
OPEN | Common Rank List | 1 | 67 |
EWS | EWS Category Rank | 6 | 20 |
OBC-NCL | OBC-NCL Category Rank | 12 | 62 |
SC | SC Category Rank | 1 | 39 |
ST | ST Category Rank | 1 | 16 |
Note: CSE, OPEN, Gender-Neutral and non-PwD cutoffs are not common. They differ depending on the seats available within each category.

Factors Affecting IIT Round 5 Cutoff 2026
The list of factors affecting IIT Round 5 cutoff 2026 include vacancies after Round 4, seat upgrades through Float/Slide options, demand for courses, and so on.
Vacancies Remaining After Round 4
Round 5 allotment depends on seats left after earlier upgrades, cancellations and withdrawals. A branch with no remaining vacancy may show no change.
IIT and IISc candidates were allowed to withdraw only before the final round began. JoSAA does not allow withdrawal from an accepted IIT seat after Round 5 starts.
Seat Upgrades Through Float and Slide
Using the Float can move your seat to a higher preference at another institute while Slide allows an upgrade within the same institute. These movements can release the previous seat for another candidate and cause an impact on the Round 5 cutoffs depending on the preference order of a candidate and available seats.
Demand for the Course
CSE, Mathematics and Computing, AI and other core branches have stronger demand. Their closing ranks often move very little during the last round. Specialised branches display wide movement patterns across different IITs.
Preference for Older and Newer IITs
It is important to compare institute reputation, branch choice, location and placements. You may select a preferred branch at a newer IIT over a different branch at an older IIT. This behaviour creates different cutoff patterns for the same programme across institutes.
Category and Gender Seat Availability
JoSAA maintains separate seat pools for categories, female-only seats and PwD candidates. A vacancy in one pool does not automatically shift to another pool. Therefore, it is important to check the right seat pool. Comparing unrelated categories may lead to an incorrect admission estimate.
Position of the Previous-Round Cutoff
Round 4 provides the strongest reference for Round 5 because both rounds are almost at the end. If you were already close to the Round 4 closing rank, you may have a realistic chance of benefiting from limited movement.
Future aspirants must maintain a target rank range. Pair cutoff analysis with organised JEE Study Material instead of treating the previous closing rank as the only target for success.
Final-Round Seat Availability
Round 5 concludes IIT and IISc seat allocation through JoSAA as IITs do not conduct CSAB, spot or special rounds for remaining seats. If you have received an IIT seat, it is most important to complete the prescribed reporting steps within the deadline.
IIT Round 5 Cutoff 2026: Conclusion
The IIT Round 5 Cutoff 2026 provides the final picture of IIT admissions through JoSAA. Students can analyse IIT-wise, branch-wise and category-wise closing ranks to understand the competition level for different programmes. Popular branches like CSE, Electrical Engineering and Mathematics & Computing continued to remain highly competitive, with top IITs closing within very limited rank ranges.
While checking IIT final cutoffs, candidates should not compare ranks without considering the institute, branch, category, gender and seat type. The final cutoff should be used as a reference point for future JEE preparation and college preference planning. A realistic target rank, combined with consistent practice and proper analysis of previous JoSAA trends, can help aspirants make better admission decisions.
