Mathematics is the real differentiator of the JEE Rank. Even though two students score the same, NTA first analyses their Maths score; whoever has the higher score gets the better rank. Keeping this aside, our first preference is scoring above the 95th percentile in JEE Maths. For that, taking JEE Mains Maths mock tests and practising JEE Mains previous year question papers play a key role. A question may appear familiar, but the calculation can take longer than expected. Another problem may look difficult and become manageable once you identify the right model. It depends on the effort you put into practising problems consistently.
JEE Mains Maths Mock Test Pattern and Marking Scheme
Similar to Physics and Chemistry, Maths also has a similar JEE exam pattern. JEE Main Maths section has 25 questions, a combination of 20 MCQs and 5 numerical-value questions. However, the JEE Mains syllabus is comparatively vast, and thousands of formulas should be in your mind while solving a 60-minute paper.
Exam component | Mathematics details |
Total Mathematics questions | 25 |
MCQs | 20 |
Numerical-value questions | 5 |
Maximum marks | 100 |
Correct answer | +4 |
Incorrect answer | −1 |
Unattempted | 0 |
Suggested sectional mock time | 60 minutes |
Suppose a coordinate geometry problem takes three minutes because you are trying to force a lengthy method. If another question from matrices can be solved in 45 seconds, staying with the first problem is already costing you an opportunity.
So, you have to mark such lengthy but answerable questions and attempt them at last. If you sit to solve such lengthy questions, the whole 3 hours can be consumed by just maths.
Use JEE chapter wise PYQs alongside full-length mocks to plan your strategy and get habituated to the exam pattern.
JEE Mains Maths Marks vs Percentile 2027
You can find a lot of JEE aspirants scoring 90 percentile or above, but that doesn’t mean your 60 or 50%ile is less. First, what you have to do is set a JEE Maths target score. Know where you stand and what to do; stay consistent.
Take JEE Mains mock tests under timed sessions. But never think one or two mock scores are your final JEE Mains percentile.
Maths marks out of 100 | Indicative subject percentile range | Mock-test interpretation |
90–100 | 99.5+ | Exceptional accuracy and speed |
80–89 | 98–99.5 | Very strong performance |
70–79 | 95–99 | Strong and competitive score |
60–69 | 90–97 | Good base; improve selection |
50–59 | 82–94 | Reasonable progress; errors remain |
40–49 | 70–88 | More topic practice required |
Below 40 | Below 80 | Rebuild fundamentals and question approach |
JEE Mains Maths Chapter-wise Weightage
Based on the previous year's JEE Mains Maths chapter-wise weightage questions, the following analysis is prepared. It's not difficult to interpret this; the more chapters you find on a topic in your 11th and 12th classes, the higher the weightage.
Mathematics unit | Approx. weightage | Average per shift |
Coordinate Geometry | 14.2% | 3.6 |
Integral Calculus | 11.6% | 2.9 |
Complex Numbers & Quadratic Equations | 8.9% | 2.2 |
Limits, Continuity, Differentiability & AOD | 8.0% | 2.0 |
Statistics & Probability | 8.0% | 2.0 |
Matrices & Determinants | 7.6% | 1.9 |
Three-Dimensional Geometry | 7.6% | 1.9 |
Sequence & Series | 6.7% | 1.7 |
Sets, Relations & Functions | 5.8% | 1.4 |
Trigonometry | 5.3% | 1.3 |
Permutations & Combinations | 4.4% | 1.1 |
Vector Algebra | 4.4% | 1.1 |
Differential Equations | 4.0% | 1.0 |
Binomial Theorem | 3.6% | 0.9 |
Coordinate Geometry deserves special attention. Of its 32 questions in this analysis, 18 came from conics, while circles and straight lines contributed 7 each.
You may know the equation of a circle but confuse it with the conditions for tangency. You may remember the standard parabola but forget how focus, directrix and latus rectum connect. You may solve an ellipse correctly but mix its eccentricity formula with that of a hyperbola.
Make separate problem-model sheets for circle, parabola, ellipse and hyperbola. For each one, record:
- Standard equation
- Focus and directrix
- Eccentricity
- Parametric form
- Tangent and normal models
- The question types you have actually solved
Do not create five different notebooks for the same topic. One consolidated resource is easier to revise. Also, first cover the JEE Mains Maths important chapters and then go for less weightage ones.
The same principle applies to Calculus. Trigonometry may not always dominate the paper as an independent chapter, but its identities and transformations appear inside differentiation and integration. Trigonometric manipulation also supports Physics calculations.
So, a low standalone count does not automatically make a topic disposable.

JEE Main Maths Topic-Wise Mock Tests
Mathematics requires regular problem-solving practice, especially when a question involves multiple steps or lengthy calculations. JEE chapter-wise mock tests let you practise specific chapters, assess your problem-solving speed, and find concepts that need more attention.
For instance, if you take too long to solve questions on Matrices and Determinants, use a topic-wise test to practise different question types. Check whether your mistakes come from formula application, calculations, or choosing the wrong approach.
You can use JEE chapter-wise tests in three ways:
- To build problem-solving skills: Solve questions after studying a chapter to learn how different concepts appear in JEE Main.
- To improve speed and accuracy: Practise timed questions from calculation-heavy topics and identify where you lose time.
- To prepare for full-length mocks: Test your command of individual chapters before solving mixed-topic questions under exam conditions.
How to Attempt JEE Mains Maths Mock Tests on Cracku?
Do not enter the JEE Mains Maths mock test with the mindset that you must attempt everything.
Pass 1: Collect the obvious marks
Solve questions where the method is immediately visible. Do not calculate blindly just because the chapter is familiar.
Pass 2: Work through standard models
Return to questions where you know the approach but need calculation. Keep an eye on time.
Pass 3: Take calculated risks
Only now return to lengthy or unfamiliar problems. If a question still has no clear route, leaving it is often better than donating negative marks.
Now, with this inspiration, start your JEE Mains Maths Mock test:
- Select a previous-year paper or Maths mock test.
- Click on “Take Test” and solve the questions within the allotted time.
- Submit your test and review your score, solutions and performance analysis.
For revision, maintain a JEE Mains maths formula sheet containing only formulas you actually forget. Copying an entire formula book defeats the purpose.
Your final resource can be a JEE Mains Maths cheat sheet with formulas, common substitutions, coordinate results and recurring mistakes.
How to Analyse Your JEE Mains Maths Mock Test Performance?
The mock score tells you how you performed, but your analysis should tell you where mistakes happened. After you complete Cracku’s JEE Mains Maths Mock Test, you will get your performance analytics. Use them to improve your next mock score.
- Score
- Leader board
- Time taken for questions
- Type of question (Easy, Moderate, or Difficult)
- Video Solutions
The purpose of the mock is not to prove that you can solve the hardest Mathematics question.
It is to make the next paper more manageable: recognise the Maths problem model faster, leave the time-consuming trap earlier, recall the right formula and collect the marks that were already within your reach.
That is the preparation that turns JEE Mains Mathematics from a time-consuming section into a controlled scoring section.
