JEE Advanced Highest Marks

JEE Advanced is India's toughest engineering entrance examination, conducted for a total of 360 marks across two compulsory papers. Over the last five years, the highest score achieved by the AIR 1 holder has ranged between 314 and 355 marks out of 360. The all-time highest score in JEE Advanced history was recorded in 2024 by Ved Lahoti, who scored 355 marks.

JEE Advanced 2026 was conducted by IIT Roorkee on May 17, 2026, and the official results will be declared on June 1, 2026, at jeeadv.ac.in. Based on Cracku's analysis of more than 1.8 lakh student-submitted response sheets, the probable AIR 1 holder in 2026 is from Haryana, followed by AIR 2 from Uttar Pradesh and AIR 3 from Rajasthan.

This article covers the year-wise highest marks in JEE Advanced, Cracku's expected topper list for 2026, previous year topper trends, exam difficulty analysis, expected AIR 1 score range, and the IIT branches usually secured by top rankers.

JEE Advanced Highest Marks Year-wise

The all-time highest score in JEE Advanced history was achieved in 2024, when Ved Lahoti scored 355 out of 360 marks, representing 98.61 percent of the total marks. The examination consists of two papers carrying 180 marks each, making the combined total 360 marks.

The table below shows the year-wise AIR 1 topper and highest marks from 2021 to 2026:

JEE Advanced 2026 Highest Marks Scored by AIR 1

According to Cracku's analysis of over 180,000 JEE Advanced 2026 response sheets submitted by students, the expected AIR 1 holder this year is from Haryana. AIR 2 is expected from Uttar Pradesh, while AIR 3 is expected from Rajasthan.

The official topper list, scorecards, and AIR 1 marks will be released by IIT Roorkee on June 1, 2026, through the official portal at jeeadv.ac.in.

Disclaimer: The rankings and data mentioned below are based on student-submitted response sheets on Cracku and are not official figures released by IIT Roorkee.

  • Expected AIR 1 state: Haryana
  • Expected AIR 2 state: Uttar Pradesh
  • Expected AIR 3 state: Rajasthan
  • Conducting IIT: IIT Roorkee
  • Result date: June 1, 2026

Haryana's AIR 1 achievement is particularly notable because the state contributed only 58 students to the top 2,000 overall ranks. This again highlights that the national topper can emerge from any state regardless of total participation volume.

Expected AIR 1 score range: Based on the overall paper difficulty analysis, experts estimate that the AIR 1 score in 2026 could fall between 310 and 335 marks out of 360. The challenging Physics section in Paper 2 is expected to prevent scores from approaching the all-time 355 record achieved in 2024.

Telangana leads the overall top 2,000 count with 284 students, while Maharashtra contributed 242 students to the top ranks. However, Haryana produced the expected AIR 1 despite a comparatively smaller overall representation. This reflects a long-standing JEE Advanced trend where smaller-volume states often produce the very top national ranks.

Disclaimer: The 2026 rankings mentioned above are based on Cracku analysis and are not official figures released by IIT Roorkee.

  • 2022 recorded the lowest recent topper score: 314 out of 360 due to a difficult paper
  • 2024 recorded the all-time highest score: 355 out of 360 by Ved Lahoti
  • 2025 topper score reduced: Moderate to difficult paper lowered AIR 1 marks to 332
  • 2026 expected difficulty: Moderate to difficult overall, especially Physics in Paper 2
  • Expected 2026 AIR 1 score: Around 310 to 335 marks

A lower topper score in any year does not affect JoSAA counselling outcomes because ranks are determined relative to overall candidate performance. Difficult papers automatically lower category cutoffs and rank-wise score ranges across the board.

What Was the Difficulty Level of JEE Advanced 2026?

JEE Advanced 2026 was conducted on May 17, 2026, by IIT Roorkee in Computer Based Test mode. Both Paper 1 and Paper 2 were mandatory, carrying 180 marks each for a combined total of 360 marks.

Paper 1 was considered moderate to difficult, with Mathematics emerging as the toughest section because of lengthy analytical problems. Chemistry was largely NCERT-based and comparatively manageable.

Paper 2 was slightly tougher overall, mainly due to Physics. Many students reported that the Physics section involved lengthy numerical calculations and multiple concept integrations, making it the most demanding section of the entire examination.

Expected Score Ranges Based on 2026 Difficulty:

  • 280 to 320+: Target top ranks and premium IIT branches
  • 240 to 280: Strong IIT branch options across top campuses
  • 200 to 240: Decent IIT opportunities with branch flexibility
  • 150 to 200: Likely qualifying range for lower-preference IIT branches

Expected IIT Branches for Top JEE Advanced 2026 Rankers

JoSAA counselling for IIT admissions will begin on June 2, 2026, immediately after the declaration of JEE Advanced results. The IIT and branch allotted to a candidate depend on AIR, category, and JoSAA preference order.

IIT Bombay CSE and IIT Delhi CSE continue to remain the most competitive engineering programmes in India, consistently recording the lowest JoSAA closing ranks.

Branches such as Mathematics and Computing, Engineering Physics, and Electrical Engineering at top IITs also offer exceptional research opportunities and placement outcomes comparable to Computer Science at many other campuses.

Candidates should fill all acceptable JoSAA choices carefully because the counselling system allows branch upgrades in later rounds.

JEE Advanced Highest Marks: Conclusion

JEE Advanced continues to remain one of the toughest competitive examinations in India, and the AIR 1 score every year reflects both paper difficulty and the extremely high level of competition among top students. From 314 marks in the difficult 2022 paper to the all-time record of 355 in 2024, topper scores have fluctuated significantly based on exam pattern and difficulty.

For JEE Advanced 2026, the expected AIR 1 score is likely to remain below the 2024 record due to the challenging Physics section in Paper 2. Candidates awaiting results should now focus on JoSAA counselling preparation, rank prediction, branch preferences, and IIT choice filling strategies ahead of the June 2 counselling process.
