Given:
eq1) H + C = 3000
eq2) 1.2 H + 0.9 C = 3060
so Profit component is, 0.2 H - 0.1 C = 60
which is 0.2 H = 60 + 0.1 C
eq3) multiply by 6 to make it equal to 10, 2H = 600 + 1 C
multiplying eq1 with 2, 2H + 2 C = 6000
600 + 1 C + 2 C = 6000
3 C = 5400
C = 1800
with eq1) H = 1200

Take the cost of horse and carriage as H and C respectively. So H+C=3000
2% of 3000=60 (given overall profit)
Profit of horse sale = 20% of H=0.2H
Loss of cart sale =10% of C=0.1C
so 0.2H-0.1C=60. Multiply this equation by 10
2H-C=600
H+C=3000
Adding both equations, 3H=3600 that is H=1200
