Question 93

A metallic sphere of radius 6 cm is melted and drawn into a wire, whose radius of cross section is 8 cm. What is the length of the wire?

Solution

Volume of sphere = $$\frac {4}{3} × π × r^3$$

Volume of cylinder = $$π× r^2 ×h$$

Here the sphere melted into a long wire

Assume wire as cylinder

Therefore,

Sphere radius= 6cm

Cylinder the cross sectional radius= 8cm

We need to find h=?

$$\frac {4}{3} ×π×6×6×6 = π×8×8×h$$

Solving we get h=4.5 cm
