Question 9

In two similar triangles, ratio of their corresponding sides is 1 : 3 and the area of the larger triangle is $$72  cm^2$$. then find the area of the smaller triangle.

Solution

Let say, area of larger triangle = $$\triangle_1$$ and area of smaller triangle is $$\triangle_2.$$

So, $$\frac{\triangle_1}{\triangle_2}=\left(\frac{3}{1}\right)^2=\frac{9}{1}.$$

So, $$\frac{72}{\triangle_2}=\frac{9}{1}.$$

or, $$\triangle_2=8.$$

A is correct choice.
