Question 88

The number of employees working in a farm is increased by 17% and the wages per head are decreased by 17%. If it results in x% decrease in total wages, then find the value of x.

Solution

Let number of employees in the firm initially = 100 and wages per head = Rs. 100

=> Total wages = $$100\times100=Rs.$$ $$10,000$$

Number of employees after increase of 17% = $$100+\frac{17}{100}\times100=117$$

Similarly, new wages per head = $$Rs.$$ $$83$$

=> New wages = $$83\times117=Rs.$$ $$9711$$

$$\therefore$$ Decrease in total wages = $$\frac{10000-9711}{10000}\times100=2.89\%$$

=> Ans - (C)
