Find the percentage of wastage material in converting a cylinder of base diameter 10 cm and height 20 cm into a cone of equal base, but double the height of the cylinder.

Solution

In the given cylinder , H= 20cm , D = 10 cm,

volume of the cylinder = (22/7)*r^2*h = (22/7)*5*5*10 = 785.714 cm^3

volume of cone = 1/3πr²h = 1/3*3.14*5*5*20 = 523.333 cm^3.............(as the height got doubled in cone )

the percentage of wastage material in converting a cylinder = 785.714 - 523.333 = 262.381 cm^3

the required percentage.... = (262.381/ 785.714)*100 = 33.3%
