Solution

Average age of 24 students = 12 years

=> Total age of 24 students = $$12\times24=288$$ years

Correct sum of students after replacing 14 with 8 = $$288-14+8=282$$ years

=> Correct average age = $$\frac{282}{24}=11.75$$ years
