Question 62

15% of an alloy was silver. If in a quantity of alloy there was 51 g of silver, what was the quantity of the other elements in the alloy?

Solution

Given that

Let total quantity of alloy was x

15% of an alloy was silver. i.e=51g

other element quantity in alloy was 85%

$$15\%x=51$$

$$\frac{15\times(x)}{100}=51$$

$$(x)=\frac{5100}{15}$$

$$x=340$$

other element quantity in alloy was 85% so calculate 85% of 340

$$85\% of 340=340\times\frac{85}{100}$$

$$=3.4\times{85}$$

$$=289$$
