In the Cartesian plane let $$O(0, 0)$$, $$P(\cos\theta, \sin\theta)$$, $$Q(-\sin\theta, \cos\theta)$$ be the vertices of a triangle. Two circles drawn with $$OP$$, $$OQ$$ as diameters intersect at $$R$$ then $$OR =$$ _____
Correct Answer: 0.707
$$R$$ lies on both circles, so $$\angle ORP = \angle ORQ = 90^\circ$$, which makes $$R$$ the foot of the perpendicular from $$O$$ to $$PQ$$. Here $$OP = OQ = 1$$ and $$\angle POQ = 90^\circ$$, so $$PQ = \sqrt{2}$$. Then $$OR = \frac{OP \cdot OQ}{PQ} = \frac{1}{\sqrt{2}} \approx 0.707$$.
