Question 59

A train crosses a 375 m long platform in 27 seconds. How long was the train if it was travelling at the speed of 70 km/hr?

Solution

Let x be the length of the train. The train was travelling at a speed of 70 km/h.

Speed of the train 70 $$ \times \frac{5}{18}$$ m/s = 19.444 m/s

As we know that, Time = $$\frac{Distance}{Speed}$$

In order to cross the platform the train has to cover the length of the platform along with its own length.

$$\frac{375+x}{19.444}$$ = 27

$$375+x = 524.9 $$

x = 150 m

So option D is correct.
