Readings of ammeter in the circuit shown is (Consider ammeter, voltmeter and battery as ideal)
The ideal voltmeter draws no current, so the two resistors $$R$$ are in parallel, giving $$\frac{R}{2}$$, and this is in series with the two $$2R$$ resistors in parallel, giving $$R$$. Total resistance $$= \frac{3R}{2}$$ and the battery current is $$\frac{2E}{3R}$$. This divides equally between the two $$2R$$ branches, so the ammeter reads $$\frac{E}{3R}$$.
