let x and y be time taken by men and women individually to complete work
5(1/x) + 8(1/y) = 1/34 --->(1)
4(1/x) + 18(1/y) = 1/28 ---> (2)
Solve Equations 1 and 2
you will get x (Men) efficiency as 34*7 days
and women efficiency as 34*28 days
Now 3 men and 5 women
3(1/34*7)+5(1/28*34)
computing it we will get --> 1/34(3/7 + 5/28) = 1/34(17/28) = 1/56
so 3 men and 5 women will take 56 days to complete the work.
