Question 45

Rohan, after walking 5 km towards west, turns left and then walks for 12 km more. Find the shortest distance between his initial and final position.

Solution

Let Rohan start from point A walked 5 km towards west to reach point B, then he turns left and then walks for 12 km towards south to reach C.

Thus, $$(AC)^2=(AB)^2+(BC)^2$$

=> $$(AC)^2=(5)^2+(12)^2$$

=> $$(AC)^2=25+144=169$$

=> $$AC=\sqrt{169}=13$$ km

=> Ans - (A)
