A radioactive element from VII A group emits a $$\alpha$$ particle a $$\beta$$ particle and a positron. What will be the position of new element in the periodic table.
Correct Answer: 0
PLACEHOLDER ANSWER - the answer is a position in the periodic table. The $$\alpha$$ particle lowers the atomic number by 2, the $$\beta^-$$ particle raises it by 1 and the positron lowers it by 1, so the net change is $$-2$$. Moving two places back from group VII A (17) puts the new element in group V A (15) of the same period, with mass number lower by 4.
