Given below are two statements.
Statement I: The compound is optically active.
Statement II: The second compound is mirror image of the above compound A.
In the light of the above statement, choose the most appropriate answer from the options given below.
In compound $$\mathrm{A}$$, the central carbon is bonded to:
$$\mathrm{-H,\ -NO_2,\ cis\text{-}Propenyl,\ trans\text{-}Propenyl}$$
The cis and trans propenyl groups are stereochemically different.
Hence, the central carbon is attached to four different groups and acts as a chiral centre.
Therefore, compound $$\mathrm{A}$$ is optically active.
Thus, Statement $$\mathrm{I}$$ is correct.
In the second compound, both substituent groups are trans-propenyl groups.
Hence, the central carbon is attached to two identical groups and is not chiral.
Therefore, the second compound is achiral and cannot be the mirror image of compound $$\mathrm{A}$$.
Thus, Statement $$\mathrm{II}$$ is incorrect.
Correct Option: $$\mathrm{C}$$
