Arrange the following fractions in ascending order: $$\frac{2}{3}, \frac{1}{6}, \frac{5}{9}$$ and $$\frac{7}{12}$$
Using the common denominator 36, the fractions are $$\frac{24}{36}$$, $$\frac{6}{36}$$, $$\frac{20}{36}$$ and $$\frac{21}{36}$$. In ascending order the numerators are 6, 20, 21, 24. So the order is $$\frac{1}{6}, \frac{5}{9}, \frac{7}{12}, \frac{2}{3}$$.
