A train of length 300 m passes through two tunnels with a gap of 400 m between them. The tunnels are of length 800 m and 600 m respectively. From the moment it just emerges from the first tunnel to the moment it just disappears in to the second tunnel time elapsed is 60 s. Find the time elapsed (in s) between the moments the train just enters the first tunnel to the moment it just leaves the second tunnel.
Correct Answer: 315
The train has fully emerged when its rear leaves the first tunnel, and has just disappeared when its rear enters the second, so in 60 s it moves the gap of 400 m, a speed of $$\frac{20}{3}\text{ m/s}$$. From the front entering the first tunnel to the rear leaving the second, it travels $$800 + 400 + 600 + 300 = 2100\text{ m}$$. The time is $$\frac{2100}{20/3} = 315\text{ s}$$.
