The apparent weight of a solid body when measured in water and a liquid are $$90\text{ N}$$ and $$80\text{ N}$$ respectively. If the true weight of the body is $$100\text{ N}$$, the relative densities of the solid and the liquid are
Loss of weight in water $$= 100 - 90 = 10\text{ N}$$ and in the liquid $$= 100 - 80 = 20\text{ N}$$. Relative density of the solid $$= \frac{100}{10} = 10$$. Since the same volume is displaced each time, relative density of the liquid $$= \frac{20}{10} = 2$$.
