A 150 m long train, travelling at 54 km/h, crosses a platform in 42 seconds. What is the length of the platform?

Solution

Speed of the train = 54 km/h = $$54\times\frac{5}{18}=15\ $$ m/s

Let the length of the platform be x m

According to the question,

$$\frac{150+x}{15}=42$$

$$150+x=630$$

x = 480 m.
