Question 27

Evaluate $$256 \div \frac{4}{3} + 5 \times \frac{4}{3} - 8 \div \frac{27}{24} \times \left(\frac{1}{3} \text{ of } 81\right)$$

Solution

By BODMAS, first the bracket gives $$\frac{1}{3} \times 81 = 27$$. Then $$256 \div \frac{4}{3} = 192$$, $$5 \times \frac{4}{3} = \frac{20}{3}$$ and $$8 \div \frac{27}{24} \times 27 = \frac{64}{9} \times 27 = 192$$. So the value is $$192 + \frac{20}{3} - 192 = \frac{20}{3}$$.
