Three men entered into a business in partnership for 14 months, 8 months and 7 months. If the
ratio of their profit is 5 : 7 : 8, what is the ratio of their investments?

Solution

Let their investments be Rs. x for 14 months, Rs. y for 8 months and Rs. z for 7 months respectively.
Then, 14x : 8y : 7z = 5 : 7 : 8.
Now,
$14 x/ 8 y = 5/ 7$

$98 x = 40 y = y = 49 x/ 20$

$And, 14x/7z = 5/8$

112x = 35z

therefore, z= 112x/35 =

hence , 16x/5

now , x:y:z = x:(49x/20):(16x/5)

by lcm , the equation will give

20:49:64
