A man walked 9 km towards East and then 12 km towards South. How far is he from the starting point?

Solution

Let the man started from point A and finally reached point C.

Thus, in right angled $$\triangle$$ ABC, => $$(AC)^2=(AB)^2+(BC)^2$$

=> $$(AC)^2=(9)^2+(12)^2$$

=> $$(AC)^2=81+144=225$$

=> $$AC=\sqrt{225}=15$$ km

=> Ans - (C)
